Preparing For Your Pet Sitter

Preparing For Your Pet Sitter

Discussing The Best And Most Practical Ways To Prepare For Your Professional Pet Sitter Before Leaving For Vacation

Leaving your beloved pet in someone else’s care can be a nerve-wracking experience. But with proper preparation, you can ensure that your pets stay happy and healthy while you’re away. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you prepare for your professional pet sitter. This covers everything from essential supplies, to emergency contacts, and familiarizing yourself with your pet sitter.

When you choose Stay at Home Pet Services

We want to make sure you have a seamless transition when you leave your pets with Stay At Home Pet Services. This is why we try to make the whole process as simple and straightforward as possible.

We handle the necessary preparations to focus on the most important job we have – caring for your pets. To begin, here’s what we’ll need. Keep in mind, all of this information can be uploaded by you onto your Time To Pet account at your convenience.

Contact Information:

Your phone number, an emergency contact, and your veterinarian’s contact information.

Hidden home key

Home Access Instructions:

Clear instructions on how to enter your home. This includes things like a passcode for a garage door or keyless deadbolt, location of a hidden key, and a passcode for any alarm system you may have active.

Additionally, be sure to double check that a hidden key is still in its hidden spot and that it still works. Life can get busy and it’s easy to overlook the changing of a lock or hiding spot of a key. Doing this before you leave ensures that your pet sitter will be able to get into your house and care for your pets while you’re away.

Prepare Your Home

We ask that you make your home as pet-friendly and sitter-friendly as possible.

Pet-Proof Areas:

Ensure that hazardous areas or items are out of your pet’s reach. This includes things like medications, house plants, and cleaning chemicals.

Accessible supplies

Accessible Supplies:

Place all necessary supplies in easily accessible locations. This includes things like food, treats, leashes, collars, poop bags, food & water bowls, etc.

Clear Instructions:

Write out clear instructions for anything that might not be obvious, such as operating the TV if your pet enjoys background noise, or the location of the thermostat if temperature adjustments are needed. Also, let us know if you’d like your pet’s collar to be worn at all times or taken off when they’re inside. Additionally, knowing how and when your animal should be crated is another important tidbit for us.

Your Pet’s Routines

Please let us know about your pet’s daily routines so we can do our best to keep those routines going while you’re gone. This includes things like feeding instructions, walking/exercising instructions, designated sleeping areas (for overnight sitting), etc.

Departure Day

On the day you leave, do what you can to make the transition as smooth as possible. For example:

Exercise your pets before you leave

Exercise:

Give your pet plenty of exercise to help them settle down. Take your dog for a walk or spend a play session with your cat before you leave. Tiring them out will help them sleep better shortly after you leave.

Comfort Items:

Leave out familiar items to keep your pet calm. This can be a favorite toy, a cherished blanket, or even an article of clothing that smells like you.

Positive Goodbye:

Keep your departure upbeat and avoid long, emotional goodbyes which can increase your pet’s anxiety.

Time To Pet App

We do our best to keep you up-to-date with every pet sitting visit to give you that peace of mind while you’re away. Our professional sitters will communicate with you through the Time To Pet app on your phone or computer. We’ll also ‘show’ you how well your furry friend is doing by sending pictures with each visit report.
