Honor shelter pets and raise awareness with Remember Me Thursday, a day to inspire adoption and support for pets waiting for homes
Every year, on the fourth Thursday of September, Remember Me Thursday shines a golden light of hope and awareness on shelter and rescue pets who are waiting for their forever homes. At Stay At Home Pet Services in Cincinnati, Ohio, we believe this day is a special opportunity to celebrate second chances, promote pet adoption, and honor the lives of animals often overlooked.

What is Remember Me Thursday?
Remember Me Thursday® began in 2012 as a global social media awareness campaign created by the Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego. This nonprofit has been helping homeless pets for over 40 years through adoption programs and community education. The campaign’s goal is to unite individuals, shelters, and rescue organizations worldwide to be a powerful voice for orphaned and shelter pets in need of loving families.
Since its inception, Remember Me Thursday has inspired over 1 billion social media impressions and involved hundreds of thousands of participants from more than 190 countries. Celebrities such as Diane Keaton, George Lopez, and Katherine Heigl have lent their support to spread the “opt to adopt” message and help save thousands of lives.
Why Is This Day So Important?
Despite progress, over one million pets are still euthanized annually in shelters globally due to overcrowding and lack of adoptive homes. Remember Me Thursday raises critical awareness about this heartbreaking reality and encourages communities to change it by supporting adoption, fostering, volunteering, and donating.
This campaign shines a light on the millions of pets waiting silently for a second chance, reminding us all that behind every shelter cage is a deserving soul longing for love and care. Because of campaigns like this, adoption rates have increased, euthanasia rates have declined, and thousands of pets have found their forever homes.
