People clamor for success, diamonds, and Siamese cats.
Since the first two things probably have you saying, “Of course,” let’s talk about why the Siamese cat is so cherished.
“The Royal Cat of Siam,” dubbed by the British, has many endearing qualities. These things make it understandable why the feline from Siam (now known as Thailand) has such staunch supporters.
From its beauty to its history, it’s time to list 6 reasons why the Siamese cat is one of a kind.
1. The beauty of the Siamese cat
With only a glance, the Siamese will have you looking twice. Its sleek body and long legs make it resemble a model walking the runway.
Born with entirely white fur, which changes into various colors on the body, their paws, face, tail, and ears can have color points. The main ones are:
- Seal point – Dark brown
- Blue point – Dark blue
- Lilac point – Pinkish gray
- Chocolate point – Light chocolate
A truly interesting part of the cat is the body color gently morphs into the point colors smoothly with an ombre-like effect.
Additionally, their stunning blue eyes would make Paul Newman jealous. They’re mesmerizing and possibly the most recognizable feature it has. Part of its royal appearance is the face gently slopes into a snout you could mistake for a young lion. “Stunning” is no overstatement.
2. The personality of the Siamese cat is endearing.
Although you might think such an easy-on-the-eyes creature could be standoffish, that isn’t the case overall. Certainly, some are but generally, they love their people and proudly show it. Some even call them lap kitties. They’re also lovingly known as “Meezers” due to their distinctive mew.
If you want a constant companion, this is the cat for you. They want to be involved, whether it be following you from room to room or even playing fetch.
They can sometimes be demanding or persistent, if you will, but can’t we all? One of the best ways to keep them happy is to make sure they have plenty of interactive toys. It will keep their brains and bodies busy while they take a break from bird watching.
They’re also social butterflies and interact seamlessly with kids and other animals. This comes in handy when you’re the prettiest cat on the block.
3. The Siamese cat will tell you how it feels.
Famously known for their vocal abilities, you’ll never need someone else to talk to when they’re around. Their mewing can sound plaintive, chirpy, or baby-like. You may not know if you have a feline or a newborn.
They’ll let you know if they’re hungry, in pain, or excited. These cats are quite intelligent, and if you listen closely, you can learn the differences in what they’re trying to communicate.
If you need a break from your Chatty Catty’s vocal talents, try not to encourage it with treats at every sound they make. Instead, make sure its needs are met with clean water, meals at the same time daily, lots of mental stimulation, and plenty of love.
4. The popularity of the Siamese cat is worldwide.
Unless you live on Mars, you’ve heard of this enchanting breed. They’ve lived in palaces and have been the feline of celebrities and royalty like:
- Elizabeth Taylor
- President Rutherford B. Hayes
- Sophia Loren
- Queen Elizabeth II
- Andy Worhol
- Princess Michael of Kent
- Jane Fonda
A Siamese even made an appearance in one of the most famous movies of all time:
“In the movie The Wizard of Oz, a Siamese Cat is the cause for Dorothy missing her balloon ride back to Kansas. As the balloon is just about to lift off with the Wizard, a girl in the crowd holding a Siamese cat distracts Toto, causing him to jump out of the basket and Dorothy to chase after him.” – www.tica.org (The International Cat Association)
So if you have one of these coveted kitties, you may want to invest in some acting lessons.
5. Siamese cats shed very little.
If you’ve had a cat before, you know if you don’t have hair on your clothes, something is wrong. But with “Meezers,” your nickname of “Furball” will go out the window.
All cats (and dogs but that’s a different blog) shed, however, Siamese cats don’t shed as much as other breeds. Plus, their short hair isn’t very noticable when it falls.
That said, it’s best to groom them with a bristle brush once weekly to keep extra hair under control and to distribute the skin’s natural oils.
So if you’d rather eat cat food than to have an up close and personal relationship with your lint roller, this is a cat to consider.
6. The Siamese cat’s history is intriguing.
As unknown as what makes this glorious kitty tick, its origins match the mystery. Although it’s widely agreed they existed in the 12th century, they could have been around before that time.
Literally worshipped in ancient Egypt, they were compared to gods and goddesses. They’re depicted on countless relics, walls and even tombs, of that era.
They made their premier in Europe in 1871. Later that century, the cat graced the United States with its presence when First Lady Lucy Hayes was gifted with one.
When TICA was formed in 1979, they were introduced as one of the original cat breeds to compete in shows. The CFA (Cat Fanciers’ Association) includes the Siamese as one of the most popular pedigreed breeds.
No doubt about it, this is one cool cat.
Now that you know six of the top reasons why so many adore this breed, you can share your knowledge. And you won’t even need a lint roller for that.
